My research is focused on peoples with disability in the Roman Empire, and more specifically blind people in Roman Egypt from the second through the seventh centuries CE. By pulling together seemingly disparate sources I am attempting to reconstruct the lived experience of blind people in Roman society. From legal documentation to religious stories and material culture, my research melds together a myriad of sources to investigate an often neglected part of the ancient Mediterranean historical and cultural legacy
