Matthew S. Crum is a Lecturer for the Revelle College Humanities Program at U.C. San Diego. He received his B.A. in History from the Ohio State University and his Ph.D. in History from the University of California, San Diego. His current research project, Unbecoming Romans, studies expressions and perceptions of Romanness at the margins of the East Roman state, or Romania. He is also a contributor to the ongoing Australian Paliochora-Kythera Archaeological Survey (or APKAS), which is conducting a diachronic study of the Greek island of Kythera. His research and teaching interests include: East Roman history and literature, Classical reception, the representation of the “Other,” and Medieval Greek Archaeology.
